Getting around is easy with frequent buses from the town centre or by hire car. Whether wishing to travel on to the north coast to visit the quaint old towns, or wondering around the mountain villages for lunch or coffee, or heading south to visit the bustling towns of Adeje, Los Cristianos or Playa de las Americas. Several companies offer boat excursions from the harbour at Los Gigantes with frequent whale and dolphin sightings.
There are pleasant swimming areas in Alcala together with several beautiful natural sea pools, just a 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive north of the Villa.
For those seeking some retail therapy or more adventurous activities, it is also possible to use buses to travel to the Siam Mall and Water Park. Both are only a 20 minute drive by car or a bus journey.
There are several golf courses on the Island available to non-members, with many enjoying stunning courses overlooking the coastline and are open all year round due to Tenerife's temperate climate.
Mount Teide is also well worth a visit and easily accessible by car or an organised coach trip. Remember to take a jacket with you as the temperature drops dramatically as you climb the altitude. The hills and mountain areas have quite a different climate to the coast and walkers find the walking in Santiago del Teide very pleasant, especially in Spring time when the almond trees are in blossom.
